TechNet conferences are intended for
all library personnel whose
responsibilities
involve the use of
technology,
whether
at
the most
basic or the most expert level.
About the Registration Fee
Some people have expressed concern about the conference fee increase from previous years. Until this year, NTLP conferences received funding support from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, and the registration fees were only required to cover refreshments and meals. As of this year, NTLP receives no state funding for any kind of training events. Consequently, we need a combination of fees, donations, and sponsorships to cover the cost of the conference facility, equipment, speaker fees, and staff time. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, NTLP seeks only to cover expenses for the event.
Gary Price: Google, eBooks & Beyond: Ethical Challenges & Issues for Today's Librarian
Gary Price is a librarian, writer, consultant, and frequent conference speaker. Before launching INFOdocket, Price and Shirl Kennedy were the founders and senior editors at ResourceShelf and DocuTicker for 10 years. From 2006-2009 he was Director of Online Information Services at Ask.com, and is currently a contributing editor at Search Engine Land.
Rochelle Logan: Douglas County Libraries'
eBook Platform Development Experience
As Associate Director of Support Services at DCL for 11 years, Rochelle has experienced many changes while keeping up with an exploding county population. However, popularity of eBooks & trying to keep up with that demand has been the most interesting & all-consuming issue she can remember. Yes, she has the degrees & the background in collection development, technical services & IT, but did that prepare her for this? She’s still holding the tiger by the tail.
Bobbi Newman: Bridging the Digital Divide – It’s MORE than Teaching Computer Skills
to Seniors
Bobbi’s background & experience with digital literacy issues varies widely. From providing first-hand digital literacy instruction to library patrons, to serving on a national task force focused nationwide digital literacy issues & finally to providing tech support for family members over the phone – she’s done it all! Her blog, Librarian by Day, is the recently announced winner of the 2012 Salem Press Blog Award in the public library category.
Some comments from attendees at TechNet 2011:
Great speakers and diversity of topics.
This is by far the best TechNet I have ever attended. The guest panel had something for everyone. Academic, Public, School and Small public libraries. The sessions were the same way as well. Often times I go to sessions at conferences and they are typically all school related or large (Houston, Ft. Worth, Dallas) Public library related. With our small staff (3) it is often very difficult to roll out such changes that are inspired by conferences. I especially enjoyed Jessamyn West! A lot of her discussions our staff could relate to and it was refreshing!
Thank you for the Tech Petting Zoo; it was set up with lots of space for small groups of users to see each item without bumping into those gathered for another device.
The best one yet - the speakers were fantastic!
This was my first TechNet Conference and it won't be my last.
Of course there are always two great presentations at the same time. I am not complaining, just commenting. This means you had a great slate of topics/presenters.
This is one conference that always comes across as worth my time away from usual job.
It was a perfect experience for me. The presenters talked about extremely relevant topics, they were entertaining - it was just a great experience. I am so thankful that I was able to attend.
This was one of the best conferences I have attended through NTLP. There was information for everyone, from the Tech Guru to the strunggling with technology (like myself).
This is the best conference for learning about new technology and how it applies in libraries. I always learn a lot.
My only complaint would be that there were so many good topics for the sessions that it was sometimes a hard choice.
